I had a dream last night.

Last night I dreamed I was visiting my uncle. In the dream I was feeling really self conscious because my hair was too shaggy and my neck needed to be shaved. I decided to go into the bathroom and buzz my head with the clippers that I was holding. It seemed as though I’d been holding them all along.

As I stood in front of the mirror, I wasn’t sure how to approach the task at hand. I was particularly worried about how I would buzz the back of my head evenly. I was also growing uncomfortable with the vision I had of how this would all turn out.

Joshua Blankenship kindly offered to cut my hair for me. It seemed as though he’d been there all along. I was grateful and handed him the clippers. When he was finished, I had a mullet that looked a lot like this. Part of me was disappointed and part of me thought it suited me.

I have no idea what this means. Interpretations are welcome in the comments.

Words I love to hear Jaimes say…

excited sounds like sky-tid usually in a very sky-tid voice

success sounds like skus-ex or skus-ess also in an sky-tid voice

especially sounds like pecally in a long  dramatic voice

probably sounds like prbb-lee

Today she said computer correctly.  Sounding it out and everything.  It was so cute because she used to say computer like pea-gee-r.   She’s growing up.

New reads…

I’m Chocolate, Your Vanilla by Marguerite A. Wright.

About 1.5 years ago two different women told me about this book.  I would say this is a must read for anyone because it deals with race.  If you’ve got kids, no matter what their color is, you should read it.  Our hope is to one day be a transracial family but even if we weren’t the author explains how kids view race and how their view is different from an adults view.  She also refers a lot to 3 year olds which is fun to me because I know one really well.  Seriously, go to the library now, you won’t be sorry.

Looking back…

Tonight I’ve been getting together a spreadsheet of addresses for Christmas cards that come in.  We’ve kept a pile in the Christmas box so I’ve added those addresses too.  It was so fun to look back to pictures, letters, notes!  Sometimes all the way back to 2003!  Right, I know, 2003 was not really that long ago but a ton has changed!  I think we’ll keep these and make a book to add to in years to come.  At last my freakish tendencies to hold onto random stuff has paid off!

The cupcake story…

Around the end of October Jaimes got a very special phone call. It was from Uncle Kris. You see, Uncle Kris had recently proposed to Jenna (we are all very excited!!) and Kris asked Matt to be a groomsman and was wanting to ask Jaimes to be the flower girl. Moments before the phone was given to Jaimes we sat her down at the kitchen table to have a cupcake that had been brought home from the night before. She was very excited about the cupcake.

The cupcake is sitting on a paper towel infront of her. Phone is handed over. She is on for seconds and says, “Um, no. You can talk to my Dad now so I can eat my cupcake.” Hands the phone over. I was mortified.

She has since agreed to have the honor and yes, the cupcake is long gone.
