Billy Graham on Technology & Faith

I’ve been thinking a bit about the futility of the design profession lately. I’m talking real design—problem solving design, not decoration or art.

We’re never really solving the root problems, rather we’re just putting band-aids on the tangible issues because only God can fix what’s wrong with the world and what’s wrong with us. Billy Graham gave this talk at TED eleven years ago on technology and faith. It’s still completely relevant.

so many kids

Did you know that the state of Texas is currently in a crisis concerning child services? Never, at any time in the past, has there been so many kids with such a degree of need and so few homes to take care of them. Last month the Houston CPS office had 28 different kids spend the night at the office with caseworkers b/c they just couldn’t find anyone that was willing to take them.

Last week we had our first official FAM meeting. I believe over 70 people showed up. There was about a 50/50 split between folks interested in respite care and folks interested in foster care. We donovans are being humbled at every turn.

OMG – Cross Connector Rules

It’s taken me a ridiculously long time to get around to setting up my Cross Connector account (sorry Ryan). I say ridiculous because it took me seconds to get set up. Yes – seconds. As in, “less than one minute.”

I’m so enthused about this app, that I stopped in the middle of using it to blog about it. If you manage projects for churches stop what you’re doing and sign up immediately. Typically these kinds of statements are used jokingly, but I’m not kidding. If we were iChatting right now, you’d see me glaring at you with intense urgency while you setup your account.

I don’t typically like to put names on my readership, but Derek, Danielle, Kevin, Rhodes, Daniel, Jonathan, Jason, Shawnda, and Monroes – I’m looking at you. To put it simply, if Basecamp met Jesus, it would look a lot like Cross Connector. Now go – sign up and make things happen.
